Hi to my Challenge followers. The new week is upon us and Day 6 is about to come to an end.
The news is that my challenge just grew. One guest has had a family 'tragedy' and cant attend. So scores on the door are 11 places in 8 days. Excellent. I do have a new plan for tomorrow though.
I have added my upcoming events to further sites Business Scene and Eventful. I have been on Twitter and checked in at Facebook
Beyond Your Website - Business Scene / Eventful / Ecademy
Accelerated Twitter Success - Business Scene / Eventful / Ecademy
The most targeted of these I would say is Ecademy. In order to post them to the groups I am part of however I have had to put them up multiple times. Business Scene is good to target at your area and business types and Eventful is good mainly for location. I think for all three the key is the contacts and network - of course this goes for any social networking tool. It's all very well posting something up but I need the people to talk to about it.
To date I have had 255 views on my Accelerated Twitter Success page which is the focus of this challenge. I know through using Twitter and checking my bit.ly click stats that many of these clicks have come from America. Not too much of a surprise that they are not coming but it does suggest that I need to do more work on my Twitter following so that it is relevant and targeted.
Twitter Tip 1 for you newbies out there - never NEVER click on any Twitter ads that promise to get your loads of followers instantly. Fine to use a Twitter people finder tool and strategically target based on content and location but randomly adding followers is pointless and a waste of your time.
Twitter Tip 2 if you want to know what a bit.ly is then have a look at http://bit.ly. It is a means to shorten URL's - very useful for getting more characters into your Tweets but even more useful for tracking the click throughs on your Tweets. Bit.ly short urls are incorporated into most Twitter Tools such as TweetDeck and Seesmic desktop apps. I use Seesmic because I like the way I can open and close my saved search terms and grouped followers. On TweetDeck you have to have them all open all the time.
Before I get on to my new plan I'll update you about the weekend. Basically nothing happened in my online life. My real world life was filled with my 8 year olds football practice, picking up disco lights (if you live in Maidstone I recommend Dash Sound and Light - excellent bloke), making sandwiches and hosting a kids party. Sunday was Jubilee Church and putting the events online.
So my new plan. Inspired by an email I got from Christopher Howard it occured to me that the biggest challenge I have is getting the word out to enough people in a targeted fashion. Christopher Howard gives away most of the tickets to his events by encouraging people to give tickets to their friends. This gave me the idea of giving people a free ticket to the event if they get a friend to buy a ticket. This means that they can either split the price between them or get to come on the course for free by encouraging someone else to pay. Either way they will be promoting my event. I will fill the event more quickly and any overflow will start to fill the next event. I like it. Now I just have to promote it tomorrow,
Mmm, how much time to I give to creating the content and means to do this? I could just let people tell me when their friend has purchased or I could set up an affiliate code that people need to register for. My instinct is to keep it simple. A quick adjustment to the sales pages and some notices on the social networks will probably be best use of my time.
Wednesday night I have the Beyond Your Website event. Thursday I am speaking to IOD Kent, Folkestone Creative Quarter and Kent University on Twitter and Social Media. A bit of promotion at both those and we could still see a late surge for next Wednesday.
